Metcalfe Catering Equipment Appoints Care Chef Ambassador
Published: 11th February 2025
Already known to many in the industry as “The iddsi Guy”, Andy provides practical hands-on training for chefs and care team members who prepare and serve texture modified foods. In his Ambassadorial role, Andy will showcase the ways in which machines in the Metcalfe portfolio, including the new newly launched HALLDE CC-34 Care, can be used for the preparation of IDDSI compliant dishes.
“I am really excited to be taking on this role,” says Andy. “Metcalfe’s food preparation equipment has an excellent reputation, so I am looking forward to getting out there and using the machines to show care caterers how the range can simplify the process of preparing IDDSI compliant food.”
During his sessions Andy covers how to safely prepare and serve texture modified food and drink, imparts his knowledge of the IDDSI framework, and reviews other aspects of serving food in the care sector such as dining room standards and service. Over the past 10 years Andy has been focussed on helping residents with dysphagia to dine with dignity by modifying the texture of the meals served in care homes and demonstrating simple yet effective methods of presenting food and drink in a person-centred way.
Andy’s contribution to training chefs and care team members was recognised with the prestigious “Training and Apprenticeship Award” at the 2024 Public Sector Catering Awards. He is also a valued member of the National Association of Care Catering and the UK IDDSI Reference Group, promoting awareness and the ongoing use of the IDDSI Framework.
Commenting on Andy’s new role, Metcalfe managing director, Neil Richards, said: “It’s a real coup for us to have Andy come on-board as our Care Ambassador. His knowledge and expertise in relation to IDDSI are second to none, making him the ideal person to demonstrate the Metcalfe range to care caterers.”
